Do I have to be a counsellor to attend your training days?
Many of our courses are suitable for clients, pastoral workers and health care professionals, as well as counsellors.
We are also pleased to welcome trainee counsellors to our courses. Please contact the office if you are considering a course but are unsure of its suitability for you. We recommend that all participants who are currently in counselling discuss with their therapist the value of attending.
Where are courses held?
Brentwood: The Sion Community, Sawyers Hall Lane, Brentwood, Essex CM15 9BX.
Around the UK: Please contact the named course organiser for full venue details.
Are you affiliated to The Sion Community or to any other church organisation or denomination?
We are not affiliated to The Sion Catholic community, or any other organisation or denomination of the church. Sion is our venue of choice because we enjoy how well they look after us!
Do I have to hold Christian beliefs to come on Deep Release courses?
People of any faith and none come on our training days and all views are respected. Our courses are grounded in major counselling approaches and theory (Person Centred, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Attachment theory etc), and current research. Some of our courses have very little actual Christian content, others (such as the Anger Workshop and When Church Hurts) have more of a spiritual emphasis). For those wanting to train as a Deep Release counsellor (formerly Principles and Practices of Deep Release), we offer a training programme specifically for counsellors who hold a Christian faith.
Can I use your courses to count towards my continuing professional development?
All participants will be issued with a signed CPD certificate on the day of the course (usually up to 5.5 hours for a one day course). A range of our courses carry CPCAB endorsement and are marked with the CPCAB logo in the training section of the website.
Is there parking at The Sion Community, Brentwood?
There is free parking on site at Sion, though it is limited and parking on surrounding roads is metered. We are usually able to get everyone parked at the venue, however we may ask you to lift share or come by public transport if possible for heavily subscribed courses.
I am planning to travel by train. Where is the nearest railway station?
Brentwood station is 1.4 miles from Sion and Shenfield station (fast line) is 1.8 miles away. Trains to both stations regularly depart from London Liverpool Street station. Taxis are available at both stations. Current CrossRail works sometimes disrupt services, particularly at weekends, so we recommend you check before you book courses or train tickets.
Does the cost of the course include lunch?
One of the ways we have been able to keep our course costs down is to ask participants to bring their own lunch on day courses (there is a fridge and microwave in the conference toom kitchen). Tea and coffee (and biscuits!) are included in the course cost. If you are on a weekend course, some meals are usually included (as advertised and confirmed on your course confirmation). For those staying overnight at The Sion Community, breakfast is included the following morning.
I have special dietary requirements. Can The Sion Community cater for me?
When meals are included in a course, Sion is able to cater for guests who have vegetarian and gluten free diets (please notify the Deep Release office in advance). Soya milk can also be provided. If you have a different dietary requirement, please contact the Deep Release office and we will liaise with the venue to see if they can help.
Can I purchase meals at Sion?
Sion only supplies meals advertised as being included in our courses (usually only weekend courses). It is not possible to buy lunches or evening meals at the venue, but breakfast is included for those staying overnight. You are welcome to bring food with you and use the venue’s fridge and microwave. Alternatively, Brentwood High Street has many eateries and is only a short walk away. Free tea and coffee making facilities are available at Sion.
I missed a course I wanted to attend. Will you be running the course again?
We cannot guarantee we will run a particular course again, but the best way to find out is to search the course listings on the website and to receive our annual brochure. Please contact email@example.com to be added to our mailing list.
