SUMMARY:Beyond The Label: Working With Diagnosed Clients
DESCRIPTION:The most common presenting mental health issues in a doctor’s surgery are Anxiety\, Depression\, PTSD/Trauma and Personality Disorders.  But what does a clinical diagnosis actually mean for the counsellor? \nToday’s session will focus on how we can support clients who have been given a mental health diagnosis\, without feeling out of our depth.  Dr Chris will explore both the benefits and limitations of a condition being given a ‘name’\, and what might present in the room.  He will address what helps and what doesn’t\, including common misunderstandings. \nThis training session will enable us to: \n\nTalk openly about their diagnosis with clients\nBe curious\, not making assumptions\nWork with meaning\, not just symptoms\nGround ourselves when we feel anxious\nExplore ethical considerations re scope of practice\, boundaries and referrals

SUMMARY:Understanding Burnout: Supporting Clients to Reconnect to Self with Katy Bodman
DESCRIPTION:Research tells us that Burnout is increasingly present in life\, not simply as exhaustion\, but as a deeper signal that something in a person’s way of living\, relating\, or being has become unsustainable. Clients often arrive feeling depleted\, overwhelmed\, and disconnected – not only from their energy\, but from a sense of meaning\, direction\, or self. This course invites us to move beyond surface-level symptom management and to understand burnout as a meaningful response to prolonged pressure\, misalignment\, and unmet needs. \nThrough a client-centred lens\, we will explore how burnout can be listened to rather than “fixed\,” helping clients to reconnect with their values\, limits\, and sense of self. In this training we will look at helping support clients to make sense of their experience\, and it’s also an opportunity to reflect for ourselves too where our own alive\, vibrant true self may have become sidelined.

SUMMARY:The Deep Release Counsellors Together Weekend
DESCRIPTION:A weekend of practical exploration\, creative reflection and thoughtful conversation about the work we do.Together we’ll make space to be curious\, playful and reflective – supporting both ourselves and the clients we work with.\n \nThis is still our annual conference\, but this year we’re approaching it a bit differently! \nAcross the weekend\, through a variety of workshops\, we’ll explore four spaces that are essential to our work – creativity\, staying steady\, refining our skills\, and being human in the sticky bits. \nTaken together\, these offer a way to engage with key areas of our work and give ourselves a personal and professional MOT – with gentleness\, compassion\, humour\, hope and community. \nThe weekend takes place in a lovely village setting with riverside walks nearby. There will be time to relax\, enjoy the surroundings and connect with others – whether over a coffee or drink in the lounge bar or on a peaceful walk by the river. \n\nWhat you’ll take away\nOver the course of the weekend you can expect to gain: \n\nFresh insight into your own practice\nCreative tools and ideas you can use with clients\nSpace to reflect on your wellbeing and sustainability in the work\nEncouragement and connection with other counsellors\nThoughtful exploration of some of the trickier parts of practice\nRenewed steadiness\, curiosity and hope\n\n\nThe Four Spaces\n1. Creativity – Seeing with Fresh Eyes\nA space for creative exploration\, approaching familiar themes from a different angle and allowing room for experimentation. Not everything needs to be polished\, and we want to offer a safe space to try a range of creative tools. Sometimes we learn most when we’re willing to play. \n\n2. Staying Steady – Keeping the Flame Alive\nAn honest reflection on sustaining ourselves in the work — capacity\, boundaries\, our own rhythms and what helps us remain in practice over time. \nWe’ll also consider the realities of practice: burnout\, what drains us\, the long stretches of therapy where little seems to change\, and the subtle ways we can begin to erase ourselves in the work. \nThere will be space to share honestly and encourage one another as we explore these themes gently and creatively. \n\n3. Skills – Fine Tuning What We Do\nHere we’ll look at how we can creatively enhance the relational and practical skills that deepen good therapeutic work. \nWithin this space we will also come together for a Nesting Dolls session\, using this image to explore the different layers within ourselves and within the clients we work with\, and how these shape the work we do together. \n\n4. Being Human – Staying With the Sticky Bits\nThis is the space for what doesn’t resolve neatly — the client issues that linger and the tensions that don’t quite tidy themselves up. \nHere we’ll practise staying present with complexity\, noticing what is stirred in us\, and exploring these moments together without pressure to perform or produce quick answers. Creativity will help us reflect on these experiences together. \n\nWe’d love you to join us. \nOpen to all counsellors and trainee counsellors (studying at diploma level). \nCost Includes: \n\nAll training\nTwo nights’ en suite accommodation. Bedrooms are small\, but have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Rooms are en suite with rainfall shower\, 4′ 6″ Double bed\, Iron\, Hairdryer\, Complimentary WiFi\, 32″ TV and Tea and coffee making facilities\nAll meals from dinner on Friday through to Sunday lunch\nCPD certificate included (15 hours)\n\n  \nBursaries: We want the conference to be accessible to anyone who would benefit from attending.
