SUMMARY:When Dreams Speak: Meeting the Self in Night-Time Stories
DESCRIPTION:Dreams can offer a rich window into clients’ inner worlds when approached with sensitivity and care. This training day explores how working with dreams in a way that is respectful\, collaborative\, and grounded in the therapeutic relationship can support meaningful shifts in self-awareness\, shedding light on both past experiences and present concerns. \nThrough a combination of theory\, demonstration\, and creative ways of working\, participants will explore how dreams can be approached as meaningful emotional experiences rather than symbols to be interpreted. You will learn how to invite\, explore\, and close dreamwork safely\, while remaining firmly client-led and ethically attuned. \nCome for yourself… come for your clients. \nPauline says:\n“I love working with clients’ dreams\, using a fundamentally Gestalt-based model combined with creative interventions. Dreams open unexpected doorways\, inviting discoveries that are often subtle\, surprising\, and deeply personal. I have seen how clients encounter meanings they didn’t know they were carrying\, particularly in relation to conflict and relationship dynamics.”

SUMMARY:Spiritual Wounds and Spiritual Dimensions in the Counselling Room
DESCRIPTION:Spiritual wounds are injuries to a person’s meaning-system\, relationship with God (or the sacred)\, moral framework\, and/or spiritual community. They often arise through trauma\, loss\, coercion\, betrayal\, shame\, or exclusion — and can have a shattering impact on identity\, worldview\, trust\, and sense of belonging. \nAs counsellors\, we may sit with clients for whom spiritual pain is central to their presenting issues\, yet difficult to name. This training day will help us meet clients in a spiritually literate\, ethically safe and non-preachy way\, with sensitivity to both the potential resources and the potential harms of spirituality. \nRooted in Deep Release’s Christian ethos\, the training will focus primarily on spiritual wounding within Christian contexts\, while also engaging wider cultural dimensions of spirituality and the diverse ways spiritual experience may be understood across communities. With an awareness of how profoundly existential spiritual distress can be\, the day will be facilitated gently and thoughtfully\, making space for reflection as well as practical learning. \nThe training will include \n\nWhat “spiritual wounds” can look and feel like in the counselling room\nSpiritual trauma and spiritual abuse\nAttachment wounds and the shaping of God-image\nGuilt\, shame and moral injury\nGrief\, loss and spiritual disorientation (“dark nights” and spiritual struggle)\nSpiritual bypassing: when faith language becomes an avoidance strategy\nRed flags and safeguarding indicators\nTherapist stance: spiritual humility\, ethical boundaries\, and client-led integration\n\n\nCome for yourself… come for your clients. \nPauline says: \n“While finding faith a profound personal resource\, I have also experienced my own ‘dark nights’. There is a particular quality to spiritual wounding: it touches the entirety of our sense of being and wellbeing. Having worked with many clients in deep trauma in this area over many years\, I long for our work as counsellors to bring understanding\, acceptance\, hope and healing.” \n

SUMMARY:Norwich: Game Over! Understanding the Dynamics of Everyday Relationships
DESCRIPTION:We all play games – sometimes without even realising it. \nFrom “Poor Little Me” and “Look What You Made Me Do” to “Sweetheart” and “Hit and Run”\, these familiar patterns of blame\, avoidance\, and manipulation show up everywhere – in our clients\, in our families\, and even within ourselves! \nBased on Eric Berne’s classic “Games People Play\,” this engaging and often humorous workshop takes a deep dive into the fascinating world of psychological games – the subtle\, often unconscious ways we try to get our needs met\, avoid intimacy\, or protect ourselves from vulnerability. \nWe’ll explore:\n• Why we play these games\, and how they develop as attempts to gain strokes\, the vital “oil” of human communication.\n• How our early experiences of being parented shape the Free Child\, Adapted Child\, Nurturing Parent\, and Critical Parent parts of us.\n• How hurt\, shame\, anger\, and rebellion can arise from critical or rejecting early patterns\, and how these emotions drive our relational behaviour.\n• The Drama Triangle of Victim\, Rescuer\, and Persecutor – how we get drawn into it (and how to get out!).\n• Why our desire for belonging and intimacy can lead us to repeat painful dynamics\, and what we can do instead.\n• The “degrees of games” – from milder misunderstandings to deeply destructive patterns.\n• How to recognise\, reflect\, and respond when others invite you into a game – and how to stop playing them yourself. \nAlong the way\, you’ll get a clear overview of Transactional Analysis (TA) – the brilliant\, practical model that helps us understand why we relate the way we do\, and how we can change. You’ll see how TA offers fresh insights for counsellors\, coaches\, and anyone working in a helping profession.\nExpect a session full of insight\, laughter\, challenge\, and growth – one that will help you see human behaviour (including your own!) in a whole new light. \nYou’ll leave with a deeper understanding of:\n• Yourself and your patterns\n• Your clients’ relational dynamics\n• How we can bring more authenticity\, awareness\, and compassion into every interaction. \nIncludes all materials and CPD certificate\nRefreshments provided; please bring your own lunch
