Why is it often so hard to heal from wounds inflicted by a mother who did not meet our needs? What are the complex psychological consequences of this deficit and how do we come to terms with lack of maternal love in the way we needed it?
Today we will explore different kinds of difficult mothering, from neglect to over possessiveness, as we think about how we can help clients face and come to terms with their experience of being mothered, right back to the womb.
We will also consider what this means for our self concept, and the maternal transference that often is present in the counselling room.
