About Us

Deep Release is proud to offer some of the most innovative and creative professional development in the UK for counsellors, trainee counsellors, coaches, pastoral workers and those in ‘people professions’.

Founded in 1994 by Dr Chris and Pauline Andrew, Deep Release has a passion for making theory come alive in a way that’s easy to understand, but also to practically integrate into your existing counselling model. Our training days are interactive, colourful and dynamic, combining insights from major counselling approaches, including Person Centred, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and Attachment theory with our own unique creative interventions.

welcoming learning environment

You are guaranteed a very warm welcome on our training days, and we hope you will feel you are learning among friends. Training days are usually a mix of presentation, demonstrations and video, while our Zoom ‘buddy’ groups are a great place to discuss the material and start trying out interventions.  Deep Release has a basis of Christian faith and spirituality and we welcome participants of all faiths or none.

resources and tools

Our sister company PACT Ltd offers a fantastic range of counselling tools and resources, many of which are included on our training days, such as the Roles Played in Families, Core Needs in Families and Roles Played in Anger cards, Therapeutic Sandscapes, the Wheel of Life and more. We really hope to be able to welcome you to our training soon and if you have any questions in the meantime please get in touch: info@deeprelease.org.uk

Meet the Deep Release team!

Pauline Andrew

Pauline is an accredited counsellor (MA) and supervisor (Dip) as well as a director of Deep Release. She is also managing director of Barnabas Counselling Training, where she teaches the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and the Level 5 Diploma in Supervision. She has also written and teaches the Level 5 Certificate in Integrating Creative Interventions in Counselling.

Pauline has written a number of books, including  “A Creative Guide to Working with the Inner Child” and “A Creative Guide to Working with Blocked Anger” (available from Amazon and the PACT Ltd website).  Her cartoon illustrated “Roles Played in Families”, “Core Needs in Families” and “Roles Played in Anger” cards are hugely popular around the UK and in several other countries.  Her creativity (given new energy by Covid-19 and the need to go online) has also produced the popular Therapeutic Sandscapes and Blocked Anger online tools.

A highly experienced and popular trainer, Pauline teaches regularly at the annual conference of the Association of Christian counsellors and also trains for BACP on their Professional Development Days, where her sell-out creative workshops have been held around the UK both face to face and now online.

Pauline’s first degree was in modern languages and she studied at the universities of Bristol and Vienna.  She has previously been a translator, an IT Trainer, a Tour Operator, a Marketing Manager and Conference Administrator. Chris and Pauline were married in 1984 and share three children and five grandchildren.

Dr Chris Andrew

Director Chris trained as a medical doctor and practised in the fields of Anaesthetics, General Practice and Adult and Child Psychiatry before setting up a private practice in London in 1984. As a committed Christian he sought to combine his medical and psychological understanding with spiritual insight.

His research brought him into contact with Dr Frank Lake and his interest in pre-and perinatal trauma.  In 1994, Chris and Pauline developed Deep Release which adopts an integrative approach to working with early trauma.

He came back into the NHS as a Consultant Medical Psychotherapist for six years up till 2011.  He is now retired and continues to enjoy teaching a wide variety of subjects, sharing many ideas on his YouTube channel, “Brain, Body and Beyond”.  His Integrative Cyclical Dynamic Model is an attempt to integrate the many diverse approaches to counselling and psychotherapy, showing how they each address particular aspects of the body, brain, mind, will and spirit, and can be mapped onto a model of the brain.  He believes psychoeducation to be of vital importance in helping clients to understand their own processes and be empowered in their healing journey.

Chris continues his private practice as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, Supervisor, Trainer and Life Coach.  He is also a Director of Barnabas Counselling Training where he teaches specialist modules on the Diploma course.

He and Pauline live in Essex and share three grown up children and five grandchildren.
