Today’s training will equip you to more deeply recognise and understand the effects of ruptures in the father-child relationship. We will deepen our understanding of clients who have experienced a ‘difficult father,’ and for the many who relate to this struggle, we hope you will feel validated and encouraged too. Come for yourself, come for your clients.
Key areas will include:
- Personal Experiences: the eye-opening results of our survey on how counsellors have been affected in childhood, adolescence, and adulthood by their fathers, as well as the generous video testimonies of those who share their own experiences.
- Specific Effects: Understanding the specific mental health and relational challenges stemming from these wounds, including the impact of absent fathers and domestic abuse.
- Secure Attachment and Belonging: Exploring the concepts of secure attachment and the circle of belonging and how these are impacted by fathers.
- Reenactments: Identifying and addressing how father wounds might be replayed in adult attachment behaviours, as well as how these wounds show up in life scripts and behavioural drivers.
- Secondary Narcissism: Understanding secondary narcissism, its manifestations and its relevance for some fathers.
- Counselling Insights: the therapist attitudes and interventions that have been reported as helpful in this area – as well as pitfalls for counsellors to avoid.
